Rosehip Oil for Acne Scars
If you’ve been in a battle with your acne and acne scars, never fear; know that rose hip oil is very beneficial in treating your acne and acne scars.
The Guide to the Good Life states that the variety of health benefits that come from roses have been known since the 17th century. Health-related products have been made from the rose petals, and water and hips, which can also be used to create an essential oil. The uses of this oil include helping to heal acne and scars.
As you may know, Rosehip oil comes from the seeds of the rose plant. It is very popular in South America, in places such Chile and Argentina where it grows wild. It has been used for centuries for its skin benefits. In fact, the University of Santiago conducted a study in 1983 to prove this fact. The research was done on 180 participants and showed that rose hip oil helped skin with scars and to regenerate after other damage. It also appeared to rejuvenate skin tone and color.
Rose hip oil is a natural moisturizer which is full of fatty acids such as omega 3 and omega 6. Though it can sometimes be expensive to buy, rose hip oil may be diluted with other oils so it lasts longer. Rose hip oil also contains vitamin A, often found in scar-healing preparations, to help smooth the skin from acne and scarring.
Anyang General International Corporation, a producer of rose hip oil, touts its benefits for a variety of skin conditions, including acne. The oil can help to eliminate acne scarring, or scars from other burns and other conditions, such as dermatitis or eczema. The company also notes its anti-inflammatory properties can help to remove swelling, making scars less noticeable, and it can keep wrinkles away. The company calls it all-natural skin care, a toxin-free and worry-free approach to revitalizing dry and dull skin and visibly improving your skin’s quality and appearance.
How to Apply
The Acne Specialist website recommends applying rose hip oil twice a day to help acne and even more often if you are trying to fade old scars. The oil should be gently massaged into the skin. A circular massaging motion is recommended. Be careful to massage the oil thoroughly, so it penetrates the lower layers of the skin.
Since rose hip oil contains a high level of polyunsaturated fatty acids, it should contain added vitamin E oil. This keeps the preparation from going rancid. If you purchase rose hip oil that does not have additional E-vitamin oil, it will not be good beyond six months, while those with vitamin E can list up to two years.
